XM Exchange Review: In the third quarter of this year, the U.S. dollar index has been in a sideways bottoming state. On July 1, the U.S. dollar index fell to a stage low of 96.34 points, www.xmltrust.completing the main decline band this year. After July 1, the U.S. dollar index fluctuated sideways, with an upper limit of 100.23 points (appeared on August 1) and a lower limit of 96.18 points (appeared on September 17). As of now, neither the upper or lower limits have been breached.

In the first and second quarters of this year, the U.S. dollar index fell from 110 and 104 to a minimum of 103 and 96 points respectively. The decline was rapid and large. Why was the U.S. dollar index able to stabilize above the 96 mark in the third quarter and no longer hit new lows?

The main reason may be that Trump’s tariff policy has www.xmltrust.come to an end. In February this year, Trump instructed relevant departments to study and formulate a "reciprocal tariff" policy. In April this year, Trump began to implement a radical tariff policy and imposed high tariffs on most countries around the world, threatening global economic development. The mainstream expectation at the time was that the high tariff policy would lead to a lose-lose situation, and the United States, as the initiator of high tariffs, would be hit even more seriously. After entering the third quarter, various countries have reached trade agreements with the United States, and market awareness of concerns about high tariffs has significantly cooled down. Even within the Federal Reserve, there are questions about whether tariff policies will push up inflation. No one had ever doubted the issue of "tariffs causing inflation to rebound" before.

USD IndexThe fundamental reason for the sharp decline in the first half of the year was that Trump's various policies, including tariffs, immigration, gold cards, etc., were viewed negatively by market participants, which in turn led to the sell-off of U.S. dollar assets. In the third quarter, Trump seemed intent on easing the unfavorable situation caused in the first half of the year. A typical event was his visit to the United Kingdom. Market participants' criticism of Trump's policies has also cooled down, which has been very helpful for the U.S. dollar index to stop falling and stabilize.

Since September 17, the U.S. dollar index has been making rapid progress, with the market price rising from 96 to 99.5 points, approaching the 100 integer mark. Considering that the current rising band structure of the U.S. dollar index is good, and the key technical resistance is at the upper limit of the shock range of 100.23, it may be a high probability event that the U.S. dollar index will break through the 100 mark in the future.

It should be reminded that market participants’ pessimistic attitude towards Trump’s policies has improved, but this does not mean that their attitude has turned optimistic. In fact, the American elite is still hostile to Trump's policies. For example, Harvard University attributed the good GDP growth of the United States in the first half of the year to "data processing and software." After excluding this part, the GDP growth rate of the United States in the first half of the year was only 0.1%. If negative views on Trump's policies regain the mainstream, the U.S. dollar index may suffer a serious impact.
